Lawyer Referral Services
If you are a victim or survivor of abuse, you may want to ask the Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service whether or not they screen for lawyers who are experienced in handling domestic violence cases. For a suggested list of questions to ask regarding the lawyer’s fees and experience when interviewing an attorney, go to our Choosing and Working with a Lawyer page.
Please note: WomensLaw does not have a relationship with or promote the organizations listed on these pages. Because we include thousands of resources, we cannot review them regularly or vouch for the information or services they provide. We share these resources to help all victims and survivors of abuse find essential direct services and support their needs and safety concerns.

If you meet with the lawyer that the Chicago Bar Association (CBA) refers, the lawyer will collect $30 at the initial consultation, which goes towards the operating costs of the CBA. The lawyer may also charge a fee for their time/service, which should be discussed directly with the lawyer prior to the meeting. During or after your initial consultation, the lawyer will discuss the legal fees required to handle your matter. There is no obligation on your part or the lawyer to go beyond the first initial telephone contact or meeting.
