Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims and survivors of abuse, as well as to others who qualify. Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer with whom you can consult to obtain advice. We list the organizations by the county where the office is located, but many offices serve multiple counties. We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible. You can click “View All” to look through the complete list of organizations.

DVLS provides pro bono legal help with problems relating to Protection from Abuse, divorce and custody cases involving domestic violence, guardianships, housing, Landlord/Tenant, wills, government benefits, homeownership and consumer issues. You must meet federal poverty income standards to qualify. Service Area: Wilmington, New Castle, Newark, Dover, Georgetown, Middletown, Bear, Milford, & Rehoboth.

Limited Legal Assistance Program

The Limited Legal Assistance Program has a group of volunteer attorneys who meet with eligible self-represented litigants for a one-time fifteen-minute meeting. The attorney will not be meeting with the self-represented litigant outside of the program nor will the attorney represent the litigant in court. To be eligible, people seeking assistance must not have received previous legal assistance regarding the same issue and their question must be one that can be asked and answered within the fifteen-minute timeframe. For Civil Family Law cases attorneys are available Thursdays from 11 AM until 1 PM. This service is available by appointment. To schedule an appointment and to be screened for eligibility, visit the Information Desk on the first floor of the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center (courthouse) or call (302) 255-0476.
