Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) provides a national zip-code-searchable directory of Safe Havens for Pets of Domestic Violence Victims. These Safe Havens offer sheltering services available in an area that assist victims of domestic violence with placing their companion animals out of harm’s way so that they may seek safety for themselves. At times, pets and domestic violence survivors may be co-housed, but most of the time other arrangements are made, e.g., placement in foster care, in veterinary clinics, or in animal shelters.

RedRover offers resources to help domestic violence survivors and their pets find safety together. They have a grant program to help with cost of temporary pet boarding while a client is in a domestic violence shelter. Apply through a domestic violence shelter representative. Application and eligibility information can be found on their website.

Safe Havens For Pets is a searchable directory of sheltering services for the companion animals of domestic violence victims and survivors. It is created and managed by the Animal Welfare Institute.
Sheltering Animals & Families Together (SAF-T)

SAF-T also celebrates the human-animal bond and how family pets can provide comfort, reassurance and healing to adult and child survivors. Their website lists domestic violence shelters that accept family pets, by state. Please check directly with the shelters regarding what pets are welcome and availability.
