If you are a victim or survivor of abuse, you may want to ask the Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service whether or not they screen for lawyers who are experienced in handling domestic violence cases. The State Bar of Michigan Lawyer Referral Service provides referrals to private attorneys for a $25 administrative fee. The first 25-minute consultation is free. The State Bar of Michigan Lawyer Referral service matches clients with a lawyer experienced in handling similar legal matters.
State Bar of Michigan Modest Means Program

Eligible applicants will pay $25 for a referral to an attorney, who will provide a 25-minute consultation. Additional time and services will be charged by the attorney. They can assist with family law issues such as divorce, custody, visitation, and paternity, among others. To apply, complete the application online.
