Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims and survivors of abuse, as well as to others who qualify. Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer with whom you can consult to obtain advice. We list the organizations by the county where the office is located, but many offices serve multiple counties. We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible. Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, Inc provides legal services for civil cases for low-income clients. Some of the legal problems they handle include family matters such as orders of protection, divorces, separations, child custody and child support. They also handle other legal problems that keep victims from becoming independent from their abusers, such as problems with finances, housing, public benefits, access to healthcare, immigration and other legal problems. The Watertown office serves Jefferson and Lewis counties.
