Local Programs

The Lighthouse is a non-profit agency that serves victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Services include: a 24-hour crisis line, emergency shelter, individual and group counseling, case management, court advocacy services, transitional housing, advocacy for children, and more. Provides domestic violence services in Baldwin, Conecuh, Escambia, and Monroe counties. Sexual assault services provided to Baldwin and Escambia counties.

2nd Chance, Inc. through it’s emergency shelter Joy Katherine Courtney House offers a safe place for those fleeing domestic and sexual violence. Staff at the shelter are available 24-hours a day to provide support, encouragement, and assistance. Children’s advocates are also available to assist providing helpful activities for the children. Other services available include: forensic exam support, counseling, court and legal advocacy, case management, child advocacy, elder abuse supportive services, assistance with pets and community outreach. Serving Calhoun, Cleburne,Cherokee, Etowah, Talladega and Randolph counties.

The Salvation Army Women’s Shelter provides emergency shelter and referrals for community resources. Serving Calhoun and Cleburne counties.

Safeplace provides services to six mostly rural counties Lauderdale,Colbert,Lawrence,Franklin,Marion, Winston. Offering a 24-hr help line, case management, safety planning, children’s services, court advocacy, emergency shelter, supportive and transitional housing. Safeplace is able to provide assistance to Spanish speaking victims of abuse. Hispanic liaisons provide case management, court advocacy and personal advocacy. All informational materials have been translated into Spanish. Safeplace also has a pool of Spanish speaking volunteers to help families in need.

Bethesda House provides emergency shelter with food and emotional support services. Bethesda House also offers residents trauma-based therapy, mindfulness and self-care strategies for coping-skill development; transportation to therapy sessions, court and legal appointments, medical appointments, and employment; and education and job skill training. Other community services available as well as pet sheltering (off-site).

SABRA Sanctuary offers emergency shelter, 24-hr crisis line, counseling, safety planning and legal assistance. Serving Dallas, Perry, Wilcox, Marengo, Greene and Sumter counties.

The House of Ruth provides safe, temporary shelters for battered women and their children victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or teen violence. Also, a 24-hr help line, counseling, advocacy, referrals, case management and children’s services among other services. Serving the following counties: Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, and Pike.

Crisis Services of North Alabama (CSNA) provides trauma-informed, comprehensive services to victims, including: Court advocacy, counseling for adult and child victims, case management, information and referrals, and educational instruction regarding health and safety issues, legal rights and employment interviewing. County Coordinators provide assistance to victims of family violence in each of the four North Alabama counties served by CSNA. County Coordinators can be reached at the individual county offices Mon - Fri 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

The YWCA operates two confidentially located shelters for women and children fleeing abusive homes. Counselors help these women make safety plans, obtain jobs or job training and work toward independence and self-sufficiency. The shelters serve Blount, Jefferson and St. Clair counties.

Domestic Violence Crisis Services (DVCS) provides direct services to victims of domestic violence that include victim advocacy, case management, counseling, shelter and referrals to area resources. Penelope House, Inc. provides safety, protection, and support to the victims of domestic violence and their children through the provision of emergency shelter, advocacy, individual and community education.

Crisis Center of Russell County helps victims rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault. Providing personal advocacy, emotional support and safe housing providing assistance to community, resources and offering preventative education to the community.

SafeHouse of Shelby County offers counseling, crisis intervention, safety planning, legal assistance, case management and prevention education program to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, their children, and families. Serving Shelby, Clay and Coosa counties.

Turning Point provides direct services to both victims and survivors of domestic violence as well as affected family members.Serves nine counties in West Alabama: Tuscaloosa, Lamar, Hale, Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Pickens, Marengo, and Sumter counties.

Daybreak Shelter provides options for victims who wish to escape violent relationships and homes, and recognize that every person and situation is different. The shelter facility is in an undisclosed location to protect participants and their children. Daybreak has also expanded to include out-of-shelter services such as court advocacy, education and outreach, and limited financial assistance. Serving victims of domestic violence in Walker County.
