Lawyer Referral Services
If you are a victim or survivor of abuse, you may want to ask the Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service whether or not they screen for lawyers who are experienced in handling domestic violence cases. For a suggested list of questions to ask regarding the lawyer’s fees and experience when interviewing an attorney, go to our Choosing and Working with a Lawyer page.
Please note: WomensLaw does not have a relationship with or promote the organizations listed on these pages. Because we include thousands of resources, we cannot review them regularly or vouch for the information or services they provide. We share these resources to help all victims and survivors of abuse find essential direct services and support their needs and safety concerns.

The Lawyer Referral Service was created to provide consumers with guidance on selecting and hiring a qualified lawyer who is conveniently located and handles the consumer’s particular legal matter. LRS attorneys are all members of the New Hampshire Bar Association, licensed to practice in New Hampshire, and carry malpractice insurance. LRS attorneys agree not to charge more than $25 for a consultation of up to 30 minutes. Note: If you have some ability to pay legal fees but cannot afford an attorney’s regular rate, you may qualify for a referral through the Modest Means Legal Program where the maximum hourly rate is $80. For those with very low incomes, check out the Pro Bono Referral Service.
