Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims and survivors of abuse, as well as to others who qualify. Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer with whom you can consult to obtain advice. We list the organizations by the county where the office is located, but many offices serve multiple counties. We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible. Community Legal Aid is a non-profit law firm serving the legal needs of low-income individuals and families in central northeast Ohio. Areas of practice include family law, housing, immigration, public benefits, and more. Their Legal Assistance to Victims Project (LAV) helps survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking with protection orders, divorce, and custody. Clients must be referred to LAV by community partner organizations, which can be found on their website. To apply for services, call the HelpLine or complete the online application; income limits may apply. Community Legal Aid has four staffed offices (Akron, Canton, Warren, Youngstown) in addition to four unstaffed outreach centers where attorneys can meet with clients (Lisbon, Medina, Ravenna, Wooster). Serving residents of Columbiana, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, and Wayne counties.
