Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims and survivors of abuse, as well as to others who qualify. Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer with whom you can consult to obtain advice. We list the organizations by the county where the office is located, but many offices serve multiple counties. We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible. You can click “View All” to look through the complete list of organizations.

The Family and Youth Advocacy Center (FYAC) is a multidisciplinary legal clinic staffed by Capital University Law School faculty, Family and Youth Law Center staff attorneys, and law and social work students. The FYAC team responds to the needs of systems-involved (child welfare/foster care, juvenile justice, mental health and/or developmental disabilities) youth ages 16-25 with information, legal counseling, and representation. The clients FYAC serves are an especially vulnerable population – many are homeless, have aged out of foster care, have had juvenile justice system involvement and/or are victims of crime.

The Ohio Domestic Violence Network advances the principles that all people have the right to an oppression and violence free life; fosters changes in our economic, social and political systems; and brings leadership, expertise and best practices to community programs. The Ohio Domestic Violence Network also runs a civil legal assistance program that uses a network of private attorneys who work on a reduced fee basis. OSLSA is a nonprofit law firm by the Ohio State Bar Association. It has two direct service components (Southeastern Ohio Legal Services and the Legal Aid Society of Columbus) and an advocacy and support component (the Ohio Poverty Law Center). OSLSA’s administrative offices and the Ohio Poverty Law Center are located at 555 Buttles Avenue in Columbus. The Legal Aid Society of Columbus is located at 1108 City Park in Columbus. Direct service offices are also located throughout central and southeastern Ohio, covering 36 counties. Southeastern Ohio Legal Services (SEOLS) and the Legal Aid Society of Columbus (LASC) provide free legal representation to low-income clients in a number of civil legal problems. SEOLS and LASC do not provide criminal defense representation. They handle public benefits, housing, unemployment compensation, family, consumer, education, employment, health and other matters.
