Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims and survivors of abuse, as well as to others who qualify. Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer with whom you can consult to obtain advice. We list the organizations by the county where the office is located, but many offices serve multiple counties. We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible. MidPenn Legal Services provides legal services to low-income residents and survivors of domestic violence. The MidPenn caseload covers domestic violence, welfare, consumer, elder law, housing, homeless outreach, social security/disability, health, AIDS, education, custody, divorce, and other poverty related issues. The MidPenn Legal Services Gettysburg office location serves Adams County.

The Neighborhood Legal Services Association (NLSA) provides civil legal services to low-income individuals and families. NLSA’s services include representation to victims of domestic violence, custody issues, unemployment compensation, supplemental security income (SSI) cases, social security cases, cases where Department of Human Services (DHS) benefits are being terminated. Representation is also available to low-income tenants, income eligible consumers, and to the older adults, aged 60 and above. NLS’ Allegheny location serves Allegheny County.

Women’s Law Project is a public interest law center in Pennsylvania devoted to the rights of women and girls. The Women’s Law Project works across a spectrum of inter-related issues that affect women’s legal status, health, and economic security through litigation, policy advocacy, and community education. Laurel Legal Services, Inc. provides free or low cost legal services to low-income and elderly individuals. Laurel provides free legal representation to most domestic violence victims, regardless of income. Laurel Legal Services caseload covers housing (securing and preserving safe, decent, affordable housing for low-income people); family issues (domestic violence, child safety, health and independence of low-income children, families, and individuals); economic stability (SSI/SSD unemployment, public benefits, and educational benefits).
