The Dubuque Y Crisis Services Program provides temporary emergency shelter and supportive services to victims-survivors of intimate partner violence and other violent crime committed against women and their children. The Muscatine Center for Social Action (MSCA) operates a shelter at a confidential location to provide a safe refuge for women and their children fleeing domestic violence. Family Crisis Centers (FCC) helps anyone affected by domestic violence, human trafficking, and other violent crimes in Northwest Iowa. They also facilitate access to emergency, transitional, and long-term housing. FCC is partnered with three area community health clinics to place advocates on site, offering a confidential way for victims to seek services. FCC can connect victims with the nearest advocate by calling the hotline. SafePlace, formerly the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, offers safety, advocacy, and support to victims of domestic violence and their children. Services include: a 24-hour crisis line, safe shelter, legal/medical advocacy, safety planning, case management, assistance with victim compensation, and more. Food, bedding, clothing, and other essentials are provided to those staying in the shelter. SafePlace can also help individuals or families who are at risk of being homeless due to domestic violence, helping them to access safe and affordable housing. Sign language and other interpreters are available. They provide outreach services for Plymouth and Woodbury counties. SafePlace offers shelter services for 19 counties in Iowa: Buena Vista, Calhoun, Carroll, Cherokee, Clay, Crawford, Dickinson, Emmet, Ida, Lyon, Monona, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Sac, Sioux, and Woodbury.
