Community Connections “First Step to New Beginnings” program serves domestic violence survivors and their family members in Franklin County, New York. Services offered include but are not limited to, safety planning; 24/7/365 telephone/text hotline services; information and referral services; advocacy services; counseling services; a batterer intervention education program; community outreach and education; language access services; transportation assistance; support groups, and children’s services. STOP Domestic Violence is a NYS certified program assisting victims of domestic violence, 24 hours a day. Services include: 24-hour hotline; Crisis intervention; Safe apartments for temporary shelter; Individual and group supportive counseling; Educational materials and presentations about domestic violence and its effects; Temporary childcare during office visits; Advocacy with law enforcement, medical services, local departments of Social Services, etc.; Information and referrals to other local, state and nationwide domestic violence services and human trafficking. STOP Domestic Violence also assists victims with Family Offense Petitions for temporary Orders of Protection in Family Court. The main office is located in Plattsburgh (Clinton County) with a satellite office in Malone and Tupper Lake (Franklin County) as well as Westport (Essex County).

The following free and confidential services are available to victims of domestic violence and other crimes: crisis intervention and safety planning, individual supportive counseling, legal advocacy in family and criminal courts, community outreach and education, information and referrals, bilingual, bicultural staff and services, transportation to DSS, family and criminal court, women’s support group, 9-bed safe house, 24-hour hotline, victims’ rights assistance, 911 cell phone program, OVS claims assistance, and personal advocacy with a variety of other services, such as DSS, hospitals and doctors, housing and employment, Community Maternity Services, AIDS services, drug and alcohol treatment and others.

The Domestic Violence Program provides free and confidential services to all crime victims with a special emphasis on survivors of domestic violence. We offer: 1) a 24-Hour crisis hotline offers information and referrals, as well as supportive counseling; Individuals may use the hotline to make appointments with program staff, obtain information about, or referrals to, appropriate agencies and services, or arrange for transportation in times of emergency to the domestic violence safe shelter, hospital or police department. 2) Shelter. Food, clothing and personal hygiene products are provided to all survivors upon entrance to the shelter. Safe shelter consumers are assisted with locating permanent and stable housing and employment if necessary. Safe arrangements are also made for men who are in need of safe shelter. 3)Advocacy. 4)Transportation to domestic-violence-related appointments and emergencies. 5) Supportive counseling. 6) Support groups for both residential and non-residential survivors. 7) Transitional Housing Program.
