Families In Crisis, Inc. (FIC) provides services to people experiencing family violence, sexual violence, and homelessness. Services include emergency safe shelter, transitional and permanent housing assistance, crisis intervention, counseling, case management, a 24-hour hotline, hospital accompaniment, support groups, life skills classes, and information and referrals. American Gateways, founded as the Political Asylum Project of Austin (PAPA), serves the low-income immigrant community throughout Central Texas. AG provides legal services, such as assistance with T and U visas, asylum, Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA) petitions, representation in immigration court, permanent residency and naturalization, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and family-based petitions. AG also provides community outreach and education resources to immigrant communities and local stakeholders. Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc. provides services primarily to victims of domestic violence and to others as well. Residential services include a shelter for battered women and children, a 24-hour crisis hotline, individual and group counseling for women and children, on-site attorneys for legal assistance, on-site school for children (pre-k – grade 12), on-site adult education, case management services, transitional housing, and on-site primary medical and dental care. Non-residential programs include counseling services for men, women, and children, Violence Intervention Program, transitional housing, Providing Options With Educational Resources (P.O.W.E.R), Youth Substance Abuse Intervention Program, Community-Based Counseling Program, legal services, court liaison, sexual assault resources, parenting program, and a celebrating families program. Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center provides services to women, children, men, and families who have been victims of family, sexual, or dating violence. Services include a 24-hour crisis intervention hotline, walk-in assistance & emergency shelter (food, clothing, and transportation provided), medical advocacy (accompaniment to doctor’s office and hospital), legal advocacy (law enforcement office, prosecutors’ office, and court accompaniment along with protective orders and other legal assistance), other client advocacy (job assistance, in-shelter counseling-individual and group, referral services to other helpful agencies), and outreach counseling for child and adult victims and their loved ones in area and communities and schools.
